Mind Training: How can That Take place

Mind training occurs 24/7 as the consequence of a barrage of stimuli that settle in to the mind. We have no control over most of it. It is very important to keep yourself updated of the sources, however, and monitor, if not seize control of, whatever we can.

Infants are bombarded with information, which their minds must come to organize and understand. This initial mind training happens automatically – utilizing the colors and sounds on the planet, the faces inside our lives, the voices and later the tones of voices and what they mean. We have no control over this early, mental training. When it happens within an enriching environment and according to the well established, natural order, early development proceeds in ways that positively and appropriately supports later growth and adjustment.

More direct kinds of mind training also begin early. Parents intentionally present certain experiences and information, and establish requirements and opportunities. Early on, age mates influence what’s learned. We attend school, receive coaching, and undertake artistic tutoring to intentionally receive training.

Incidental mind training continues to happen throughout our lives. Things just pop-up we hadn’t sought out and we study from them. Incidental mental training is usually the source of fears and phobias along with those wonderful ‘ah ha’ experiences that help us understand our world and spur some to greatness.

Those who have probably the most successful and satisfying lives take part in intentional mind training. They set goals and establish interests and learn what’s necessary to aid those things. One might set his sights on learning to be a musician, a brick layer, a teacher, a hair stylist a course in miracles teacher, a physician, an author, and on down the familiar listing of occupations. One might set his sights on studying fishing, hunting, sewing, dancing, cycling, crafting, parenting, and so on. They are all intentional mental training endeavors.

There is a distinctive type of mind training that is related more specifically to modifying or improving the mind’s functions. Personal happiness, for instance, falls into this category. Psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors, and social workers devote their professional lives to offering the forms of mind training activities that assist folks to become happier, more competent, and more efficient people. Working to specifically influence the mind’s basic functions is usually what’s considered first once we hear the word mind training.

This degree of training often centers around undoing or modifying negative mind training that happened in the different ways – automatic, directly from others, and incidental. When the infant learns that his world can’t be depended on to help keep him warm or cool enough, that it allows him to stay hungry, that it allows him to remain wet and messy, that it inflicts physical pain and approaches him with angry voices, the stage has been set early on for him to become a maladjusted individual. His early mental training was harmful to his long term well being. When fears or perhaps a single powerful fear, is acquired, that mind training is again harmful. Whenever a person sets out to be the toughest, ‘baddest’ guy in a nearby, his intentional mind training has set him on a devastating social path (especially if she must function in the bigger social stetting beyond his neighborhood). If a young child grows up protected from problems and being forced to learn how to solve them on his own, that mind training directly contributes to later unhappiness, anxiety, failure, maladjustment, and even depression and despair.

Few of us have now been able to avoid some negative or harmful mind training over the way. The astute in our midst takes steps to get the forms of mental training that can help alleviate the ‘bad stuff’ and replace it with essential information, appropriate behaviors, and indomitable self-esteem.
